Quantel's New Products, Applications, Software and Thinking at NAB 2005 (16/3/2005)

"The products we have launched over the last two years have now really grown up and are setting the industry on fire," says Quantel Executive Chairman, Richard Taylor. "Quantel technology is quite literally changing lives Ð the way people go about their jobs. This is a bandwagon that's on a serious roll; those many customers already on it are delighted Ð at NAB everyone will want a part of it."

Post

NAB is usually about white-hot technological innovation Ð this year Quantel has come up with a stunning business innovation that post houses will find just as exciting. We all know HD is coming. The difficulty is in predicting when HD will be a fully viable business model without losing out on projects or clients in the meantime.

At NAB we're extending the eQ range to give customers not yet fully ready for HD all the quality, performance and tools of eQ now at a highly competitive price Ð with the flexibility to 'pay as you go' for HD on a project by project basis as the jobs come in.

Following hot on the heels of the universally acclaimed 'Core Values' software release, NAB also sees the unveiling of the next step in Quantel's cross-platform software development with a major new software release that is aimed at the needs of the compositing and DI markets.

Graphics

The new Paintbox gets its first public showing in the US at NAB 2005. It has already been welcomed with open arms by graphic designers working in the critical close-to-air environment, where there is simply no substitute for its brilliant 'one-touch' ergonomics and speed.

Graphics Playout

Paintbox gains a sister at NAB with the worldwide launch of Quantel's brand new graphics playout server. Named Picturebox sQ, this new machine picks up from where the legendary Quantel Picturebox still store left off, giving broadcasters versatile stills and moving image playout capability that fits perfectly with 2005 integrated workflow models.

News to goª

Also getting its world launch at NAB is Newsbox Ð a new concept of packaged news production at a new level of affordability. Newsbox is 'news to go' - a complete newsroom system in a box. Now every broadcaster, no matter what their market size, can benefit from the magic of the Quantel news workflow.

The Newsbox package includes everything from ingest and playout automation to journalist and craft editing, all based on Quantel's sQ server technology. With pricing starting at just $199K for a complete system, Newsbox is set to be the talk of broadcasters at NAB this year.

Server solutions

With close to 60 installations in the 18 months since its release, Quantel's sQ server technology is now the market leader in integrated broadcast systems worldwide. At NAB we're showing a host of new products and developments for both the news and sports markets, including:

*Entry level, HD-upgradeable server Ð a brand new development that brings all the benefits of Quantel server technology to a much broader market.

*Near-instant Sports Highlight packaging Ð a new system that enables highlights capture, top-and-tail and play-out within moments, including slo-mo replay.

*Zoning Ð another Quantel first that brings new levels of resilience and operational flexibility to provide the ultimate workflow for multi-server, multi-application systems.

Digital Intermediate

iQ is the market-leading DI system worldwide, having done more DI on more movies than any other system. But we're still not content; there will be BIG DI news from Quantel at NAB - which will be unveiled on the booth. And there's brand new compositing software on show too. Anyone in digital film, or thinking of getting into it, shouldn't miss it.
