News Leitch Adds Support for HDV, VariCam and More to VelocityHD (11/5/2005) Leitch Technology Corporation (TSX:LTV), a leading provider of HD solutions for professional digital video, today unveiled new version 9.1 software for VelocityHD(tm). This new release enhances the six-time award-winning HD/SD non-linear editing system with support for the HDV high-definition format, variable frame rate processing for content from Panasonic's VariCam, and broadened standard-definition format support. VelocityHD 9.1 supports direct IEEE-1394 I/O of both 1080i and 720p material from HDV devices. HDV content can be mixed seamlessly with other HD formats on the timeline. VelocityHD 9.1 also adds processing of Panasonic VariCam variable frame rate material, enabling the removal of VariCam material's non-active frames while recording the HD-SDI input stream. In addition to enabling ingest and editing of 24fps VariCam content, VelocityHD supports VariCam's "overcranking" and "undercranking" for in-camera off-speed effects. "The addition of HDV support to a true high-performance, real-time NLE system like VelocityHD enables users to not only work with content acquired in this format, but also to combine it with other full-bandwidth HD material for exceptional format flexibility," said Brad Nogar, Leitch vice president and general manager for post production. "Meanwhile, VelocityHD's new VariCam processing offers an ideal solution for the editing and finishing of such content, letting users make the most out of VariCam's unique acquisition capabilities during the post production process." VelocityHD's standard-definition format support has been broadened with direct timeline support for DV25 and DVCPRO content including that from Panasonic's P2 media-less memory-based products and many tapeless recording devices. VelocityHD 9.1 also adds direct support for project and media files from Leitch's standard-definition Velocity(tm) and VelocityQ(tm) editing systems. VelocityHD combines the innovative Altitude(tm) hardware platform and the acclaimed Velocity software interface, bringing guaranteed, full-quality, real-time editing performance to the HD realm at a remarkable price point. VelocityHD features full-quality HD playback of two video streams and two dynamic graphics streams with true dual-stream real-time HD transitions and effects. An optional A3DX DVE daughtercard provides real-time 3D effects. VelocityHD supports 1080i, 1080PsF and 720p frame formats at all common frame rates, with mixable compressed and uncompressed video. All VelocityHD systems also offer outstanding multi-stream standard-definition editing performance. VelocityHD version 9.1 is scheduled for release in May and will be available as a free download from the Leitch web site, www.leitch.com, for all registered VelocityHD users.
