News Gee Broadcast Grows Successful Server Family by Two (14/9/2005) Geevs SD and MR Bring Easily Integrated, Customisable Workflow Solutions Gee Broadcast Systems Ltd is premiering two new versions of its successful server family at IBC2005. Geevs SD and MR, the latest in customisable server solution technology for SD and HD workflow, will be on Stand 7.130 networked to the new Lightworks Alacrity MR edit system. From a user perspective, the Geevs SD and MR use the familiar and trusted client/server architecture of existing Geevs servers. The hardware acts as a platform for a variety of clients that fulfil specific customer requirements. These include AutoRun for clip list playout, EZ Delay for time shifting using minimal storage, Multicam recording, Live studio playback and Archive. Additional clients are designed to facilitate management and control of Geevs servers and their content such as Link for automation control, Replicate for mirroring, and Translate. All simple, intuitive and customisable, users need only access the clients they require to minimise complexity of workflow. For standard definition operations, Geevs SD brings improved performance and a lower cost. Fast cue and play with support for DV25, MJPEG and MPEG2 are featured along with the comprehensive cache of Geevs software tools developed over previous generations. Offering a wide range of applications, Geevs SD is easily integrated with existing systems and can be configured with up to four channels in and out. A 4-channel server with two in and two out simultaneously, starts from _10,000. The perfect platform for today's diverse server requirements, the Geevs MR multi-definition, multi-channel ingest and playout server is designed to handle any content whether HD or SD. Scaleable in architecture and designed to work independently or as part of a mass-distribution or capture facility, Geevs MR breaks all boundaries in its ability to handle compressed or uncompressed HD or SD media; simultaneously taking advantage of commodity storage and networking solutions for managing data requirements. Flexible storage options include support for SATA, SCSI, or Fibre Channel storage. While purpose-designed for tight integration with Lightworks' Alacrity and Touch NLE's, Geevs MR is compatible with almost any editing system - resulting in dramatically increased editing workflow. Geevs MR is also designed with fault-tolerance in mind and system-level solutions can be configured so that there is no single point of failure. The base Geevs MR comes with SD codecs only. The MR+ includes MPEG2 support at HD. Both versions support SD and HD operations. Geevs SD is shipping now and Geevs MR and MR+ will be shipping shortly after IBC. Pricing is contingent upon system configuration. Geevs MR, will be networked to the new Lightworks Alacrity MR edit system on the IBC stand - showcasing the server's multi-channel ingest and playout capabilities and its proficiency in handling an increased variety of content. As Keith Gee, Managing Director of Gee Broadcast, explained, "These new technologies introduce better performance and integration capabilities, whilst opening up more flexibility, all with a reduced cost of ownership. We are very excited to debut them at IBC 2005."
