News Merging Technologies Launches VCube HD-2K High-definition Vcube at IBC (20/9/2005) Merging Technologies has seen its VCube, the hard disk based video player/recorder system, enjoy almost overnight acclaim. Following a highly successful development phase, the company has announced that the European launch of its new VCube HD-2K system will be at IBC 2005. Capable of uncompressed 1920x1080 high-definition video resolution and more than 30 different SD/HD video formats, it has a vast range of applications as explained by Ken Barnsley - Merging's Sales and Marketing Manager. "With prices starting from around $16,000, or €12,500, plus media storage, VCube HD-2K is probably the most cost-effective uncompressed HD disk recorder released. It's a very versatile system designed for multiple SD/HD video applications in a variety of video environments where the recording, playback and manipulation of HD or SD video is needed. VCube HD-2K can be used as a HD VTR replacement, a Dual-Link 4:4:4 recorder, a frame store for a graphics or animation houses, a SD/HD digitising station for network servers, or even as a 24fps screening system for, film dubbing, screening or digital cinemas, the list is endless. We even have basic real-time editing and manipulation features such as picture-in-picture, on screen text notations, cuts, fades, dissolves, copy and paste etc, so creating loops or play-lists is easy. A very important security feature for post houses is embedded video water-marketing, which can be text and graphics and used to protect the subject matter when multiple copies or previews are required for editing, or off-site viewings. The system's ability to convert any video format to any other format, SD or HD and open multi-layer OMF Compositions from a drive or directly from an Avid UnityTM server is also quite special. We can offer from 1.6 - 6.4TB of media storage with the system, up to 12 audio channels and we are in the final stages of developing our own tactile remote controller for the system.
