Leitch Showcases Full SD/HD Editing Offering at IBC 2005 (29/9/2005)

Leitch Technology Corporation (TSX:LTV), a leading provider of SD/HD solutions for professional digital video, announced today it is showcasing a full range of SD/HD editing applications at IBC 2005, as the company's new VelocityXNG(tm) laptop field editor for news, VelocityNX(tm) promotions craft editor for NEXIO(tm) environments, VelocityX(tm) post production field/offline editor and VelocityHD(tm) 9.1 post production editing system make their European debut.

To further enhance its NEXIO platform's SD/HD applications offering, Leitch tightly integrated its acclaimed Velocity editing software with the NEXIO server line to develop the two new editing systems, which are both based on the company's powerful and flexible Velocity user interface. NEXIO is a modular, scalable server system for transmission and news environments, which offers integrated application platforms for editing, browsing and media management across a multi-tiered storage hierarchy.

Leitch's VelocityXNG is a field editor designed for journalists to use as a portable news desk in remote locations. A software-only NLE using software codecs and effects processing, the VelocityXNG will offer integration into the NEXIO SAN with access to shared storage, but will also be able to edit and work locally until a remote connection to a NEXIO server can be established. The VelocityXNG will use NEXIO's MediaID technology to transfer only the needed video and audio clips back to the server (from any remote location), significantly reducing the bandwidth requirements. VelocityXNG shares the editing and interface fundamentals of the VelocityX post production software-only NLE, with a feature-set specifically tailored for news editing.

The new VelocityNX is a full-featured HD/SD promotions craft editor for NEXIO environments. Integrated into the NEXIO SAN, VelocityNX enables editing of Leitch native HD and SD content (both 720p and 1080i) directly from the NEXIO shared storage architecture. Using software codecs and GPU processing, VelocityNX offers a comprehensive editing and effects toolset that makes it ideal for production environments that need high-end post features along with true shared storage, sports applications that need editing and slow-motion server output, or news operations that require more compositing capability.

Version 9.1 of VelocityHD enhances the award-winning HD/SD post production editing system - built on the Altitude hardware platform - with support for the HDV(tm) high-definition format, variable frame rate processing for content from Panasonic's AJ-HDC27 VariCam(tm) HD Cinema camcorder, and broadened standard-definition format support. Sharing the same intuitive software interface and project and media file compatibility, the software-only VelocityX post production companion editor is perfect for VelocityQ(tm) or VelocityHD customers needing a laptop editor for field editing, or looking to expand their operations with additional low-cost editing seats for offline work or online projects with lower performance requirements.
