nNovia Launch QC Deck and QC100-R at NAB 2006 (18/4/2006)

nNovia Inc. based in San Jose, CA, will be showcasing the latest additions to their Digital Video Recorder (DVR) range on stand SU216 at NAB 2006.

Being launched at NAB are the QC Deck, featuring removable 'MediaPac' cartridge drives from Audavi, and the rack-mountable version, the QC100-R.

Both units are compatible with Hitachi's Z-DR1 dockable recorder, as well as nNovia's QuickCapture line of DVRs.

The QC100-R boasts a small footprint two units fit into one standard rack, 2U tall and the 12V DC power supply means it can be used both in the studio and on location. It also has extensive professional I/O: component in; VBS in and out; SDI in and out; balanced XLR audio in and out, black-burst input and SMPTE timecode in and out. Video can easily be converted to MXF, AVI and MOV file formats for editing.

"Not only are these new products perfectly suited to the rigours of professional news gathering," said Larry Aubry, CEO of nNovia Inc., "they are great products for educational institutions too".

"Both the QC Deck and the QC100-R have a new feature that allows the user to partition a portion of the disk as a conventional HDD drive. In a classroom environment for example, each student could have his or her own cartridge but share the camera and the QC or Z-DR1. The student can then use the cartridge to store the raw footage in the main, VTR-mode partition and store their editing project on the second, HDD partition".

"This hybrid functionality can also be used in a corporate environment, where the finished product can be supplied on one partition and the raw footage on other, to facilitate amendments at a later date", added Larry.

nNovia's main product line is the QC (Quick Capture) range of direct-to-disk recorders, of which the QCA2D is the only recorder that has a built in A-D converter - ideal for analogue studios wanting to get more life from their existing analogue camcorders.

Pricing and availability

The QC Deck has an entry price of $1,449 US, (£849 UK and €1239 EU) for 40GB/3 hours A/V Storage NTSC/PAL. Options are available with up to 100GB/7.5 hours of storage.
