News ProHD from JVC - affordable, flexible and now multirole with the GY-HD251 camcorder (11/9/2006) If Progressive HD is the future of broadcast and professional video, then JVC has just delivered the future. Moreover, JVC has not only delivered 720p/50 recording, but has also given a multirole design to its latest ProHD camcorder. Designed for studio, ENG & EFP applications, the new GY-HD251 is very flexible, produces magnificent images and is affordable, thus satisfying the key tenets of ProHD. GY-HD251E, launched in Europe at IBC 2006 in Amsterdam, offers live, uncompressed 1080i/50 and 720p/50 via HD SDI with embedded audio. This is unique amongst current HDV camcorders. The multirole design makes it equally suitable for ENG, EFP and studio applications. The optional KA-HD250 studio adaptor has full 26 pin camera control alongside the HD SDI and SDI output. The operating voltage of the GY-HD251 is 12V DC, via either the built-in battery V-plate from IDX or the 4-pin XLR input. Increased connectivity comes in the form of BNCs for Genlock, Time Code in / out, SDI & HD SDI out, plus a 6-pin connector for remote control. Thanks to the commitment of both Fujinon and Canon, there are four totally new 1/3" bayonet mount lenses which are coming available at or around IBC. Talking of lenses, 200 Series camcorders are equipped with dynamic shading compensation to minimise any lens aberrations. This works throughout the travel of the zoom. "The GY-HD251 is JVC's response to the European market's request for an affordable HD studio camera," says Miguel Marino, responsible for the European marketing of the ProHD range. Miguel Marino went on to comment on the budgetary aspect, "Not only has JVC kept its promise of delivering affordable HD, but also the design and connectivity of the GY-HD251 are such that customers can integrate it with their existing infrastructure."
