News Miranda's Vertigo XG graphics processor offers effective HD/SD simulcasting with dual HD and SD outputs and cross conversion (25/9/2006) Miranda Technologies announced today that its IBC line-up will include the new Vertigo XG channel branding graphics processor designed for more effective HD/SD simulcasting. The Vertigo XG features dual independent HD and SD outputs and integral up/down/cross conversion within a single platform. This allows a station's programming to be format converted and then independently branded in SD and HD at either 1080i or 720p. The Vertigo XG's dual, independent branding engines ensure that the HD and SD outputs are free of the usual aspect ratio compromises common in today's simulcast scenarios. With the Vertigo XG, stations can simulcast HD and SD channels more easily, with independent HD and SD channel branding graphics played out by a single device, and driven by a single automation playlist. "As HD programming becomes increasingly important, the ability to address both HD and SD playback without doubling up of master control infrastructure is of great value to broadcasters and thematic channel providers" says Eugene Plawutsky, product manager at Miranda. The processor offers high performance HD/SD television graphics and clip playback. It is ideal for the playout of graphics such as branding templates with data tickers and crawls, station logos, local weather, as well as interstitials and promos. Vertigo XG can simultaneously playout multiple crawls, rolls and tickers, incorporating text and animations, cell animations, clips and images, using an unlimited number of layers and individually keyed elements. The processor also features powerful audio mixing capabilities, with support for 16 embedded and 8 discrete stereo channels. Its highly robust chassis includes video bypass, redundant power plus hot-swappable RAID drives and fans. Miranda's Vertigo XG integrates closely with the Xmedia Suite template-based graphics automation software. Xmedia Suite offers asset management, graphics creation, content editing, and real-time data management, as well as work-order management and playout control. The applications' open and modular architecture allows scaling from a single user up to hundreds of users across multiple locations. Television ready graphics can be created directly from a user's desktop, dropped into predefined templates, linked to live data sources, and quickly inserted into playlists.
