Autodesk Incinerator 2007 Turbo Boosts Digital Colour Grading Process (11/4/2007)

Autodesk, Inc. has introduced Autodesk Incinerator 2007, a new release of its Incinerator clustering technology for the Autodesk Lustre 2007 digital colour grading system. Incinerator 2007 boosts the Lustre 2007 system's interactivity and processing power by using the latest multi-core CPU technology, Infiniband networking technology and GPU acceleration. Incinerator 2007 is ideal for real-time colour grading of high-resolution commercials and feature films.

Denmark-based Duckling Post beta tested Incinerator 2007. Duckling's Creative Director Jonas Drehn said, "Just about every commercial we do now goes through Lustre. It gives us a really fast way of working, especially when changes need to be made. Sometimes, after we've digitally graded an entire spot, the client wants to try something different. For example, the client may decide that everything looks too dark. With Lustre, I can please my client by quickly selecting a group of shots and making changes to all of them at once. With the added speed of Incinerator, Lustre is a very powerful and creative tool."

Incinerator 2007: Key New Features

Enhancements to the Lustre system's video capabilities:

* Support for video workflows through capture, render and play out of interlaced SD or HD footage * Drop-frame timecode support * 10-bit HD SDI output from NVIDIA graphics card for high-quality preview * Dual-head, split-screen grading mode: An expanded grading toolset can be displayed in the user interface while previewing the grading decisions in the reference monitor

Inter-connectivity with the Autodesk Smoke editing/finishing system and Autodesk Flame visual effects system, providing the ability to:

* Grade source files in Lustre at the same time as finishing in Smoke or Flame * Easily generate proxies in Lustre from Smoke or Flame media * Save time by rendering grades directly into Autodesk Stone storage for immediate use by Smoke or Flame

Support for the Autodesk Control Surface:

* Connects Lustre 2007 to Autodesk's ergonomic control surface, comprised of three sub-panels that are easily configured for both left- and right-hand dominant operation
