Rhozet Unveils New Version of Carbon Coder with Support for Panasonic P2, Sony XDCAM, Avid MediaStream and Dolby AC-3 (13/4/2007)

Rhozet today announced Carbon Coder 2.5, the latest version of its universal video transcoding solution. This new version of Carbon Coder supports both SD and HD versions of Panasonic P2, Sony XDCAM and Avid MediaStream formats, as well as Dolby Digital (AC-3) audio support. Carbon Coder 2.5 also incorporates a host of additional features for accelerating media workflows. Rhozet will showcase Carbon Coder 2.5 next week in booth #SL3716 at the NAB convention in Las Vegas.

In addition to supporting P2, XDCAM and MediaStream formats, Carbon Coder 2.5 also supports the import of IMX or HDV files in a QuickTime wrapper. This type of format has become popular in Macintosh-based editing systems and can now be converted for broadcast playout, web, and mobile via Carbon Coder. Additional improved format support now in Carbon Coder includes Quantel HD and the LongGOP version of LXF for Leitch servers.

In the MPEG domain, Carbon Coder's addition of Dolby AC-3 brings support for CableLabs, ATSC, and DVB outputs in both the SD and HD domains. This means video professionals in the cable, satellite, and broadcast space can use Carbon Coder for creating compliant bitstreams. Also new to Carbon Coder is the ability to both import and export MPEG video with SMPTE 302M audio, which is a format often used in high-end post production.

Other features now available in Carbon Coder include expanded support for closed captioning and titling. Users can import SCC files and have the closed captioning data injected into an EIA-608 or -708 compliant video output. Line 21 data can also be extracted from a video source into an XML file that can be used by database systems for indexing video via its speech content. The new titler in Carbon Coder supports multi-line, multi-language titles as well as support for image scripting of graphic overlays.
