News Quantel adds HD for free to pioneering Newsbox HD (10/5/2007) Revolutionary self-contained tapeless news system now even more affordable Quantel is announcing at NAB that Newsbox HD, its revolutionary tapeless HD news system 'in a box' will now feature HD for free, meaning that Newsbox HD systems will be available for the same competitive price as the SD version of Newsbox. In addition, the previous fixed Newsbox configurations have been replaced, allowing customers the flexibility to choose the number of seats, ports and various other options to configure Newsbox HD to their own business requirements. "Many small broadcasters are still using tape because, while re-equipping at SD makes no sense, the cost of HD tapeless systems have historically been too high," commented John Woodhouse, Senior Product Manager, Quantel. "With Newsbox HD Quantel is offering HD quality at SD prices, plus a system that is scalable all the way from the smallest call-letter stations to large, regional broadcasters." With Newsbox HD, users can freely mix and match SD and HD material on the same timeline, with the Newsbox HD system automatically up and down rezing and handling aspect ratio conversions on the fly as needed. This gives broadcasters the flexibility to make the switch over to HD when their business model demands it rather than when their technology imposes it, as well as continuing to maximise the value of their SD archive. Additionally, Newsbox HD can grow with the business, being fully scalable from 5 to 25 seats without changing the server. "Newsbox HD's toolset and common progressive user interface has long made it the most comprehensive and versatile tapeless solution in the market," said Woodhouse. "By adding HD for free, as well as including one year's free QCare cover, we've also made it the most cost-effective and future-proof as well."
