News EVS and Avid showcase breakthrough HD content transfer (18/6/2007) For the first time anywhere EVS and Avid Technology will demonstrate the seamless interchange of HD material from each other's environments at Broadcast LIVE from 19th - 21st June 2007 at Earls Court 2, London. EVS (booth D28) and Avid (booth E39-40) will be connected by an IP Ethernet fiber optic cable enabling a live demonstration of the seamless and instantaneous transfer of all HD material available on EVS' XT2 server onto the Avid Interplay production platform. Since the XT2 natively supports Avid's DNxHD codec, any content acquired from either HD cameras or delivered via satellite in high definition and ingested into the XT2 server can be transferred at high speed to the Avid production environment without the need for additional encoding or decoding. The system can be configured to accommodate different workflows according to the production application; from sports broadcast for rapid, creative highlights production to non-live studio production such as reality or general entertainment programming. The system is designed to record audio visual content in HD directly into the XT2 server for immediate connection to all EVS operated applications attached to the XNet2 network (a 1.5 Gb/s SDTI network). The EVS XFile software then acts as a gateway allowing any Avid editor to easily access all the recorded footage, instantly. For studio production environments or large sports events EVS' integrated production management software IP Director allows users to create logs of all ingested content that can then be quickly and easily retrieved by an Avid editor over the EVS network and transfer to their Avid station. The server can also be controlled remotely from the Multicam LSM, EVS world-renowned instant slow motion playback and fast turnaround editing application. Additionally, using the EVS XFile software streaming modules users can stream all content from the XT2 server instantly to any Avid station through the IP network. In live environments for instance this operation can be reversed. Highlight packages prepared in Avid post production suites can be retrieved by the XT2 server without the need for any encoding or decoding for immediate playout. "This breakthrough interoperability enhances the already strong workflow synergy's between EVS' and Avid's market leading technologies," says Avid Pre-Sales Manager, Dan Miall. "We are delighted to be able to bring this exciting development first to visitors at Broadcast LIVE." "Avid and EVS both share the goal of giving programme makers the tools to create highly dynamic, interactive and engaging live and near-live events for TV," says EVS CEO Pierre L'Hoest. "We have been working closely together on this breakthrough workflow application that enables the seamless integration between production and post technologies and provides producers with the flexibility they need to deliver more content, more creatively and more efficiently." Also at the show EVS will highlight a range of new solutions including the version 4 of [IP] Director, the latest evolution of the content management software, the new streaming module of XFile software managing automatic streaming of XT2 recorded feeds onto third party systems, and Edit2Air, the new software system dedicated to live editing on delayed feeds.
