Sony unveils HD products under the banner 'Defining tomorrow' at IBC 2007 (17/8/2007)

From its biggest ever range of HD cameras and networked production solutions to the turf of a stadium and driving seat of an OB truck, Sony kicks off a visionary and truly integrated professional HD experience from one stand

Visit Sony at IBC - Stand 9.310 in Hall 9, RAI Centre, Amsterdam

Sony today revealed how it will give visitors to its stand at IBC 2007 a unique and forward-looking experience of its expansive range of innovative HD products and solutions that are helping to define tomorrow's broadcast and production industry.

"HD from Sony is about choice. Visitors to the Sony stand will experience solutions that leverage the best that tape, disc and memory have to offer," said David Bush, Marketing Director, Sony Europe. "All of our products and solutions have been designed to suit different applications and different budgets and yet, through Sony's collaboration with a huge range of major partners, they provide excellent integration into either video or file-based workflow environments. Alongside a host of new product and system developments, Sony will have on hand many of its professional services experts to explain and discuss how our services divisions can help customers turn creative ideas into affordable reality".

Defining tomorrow: Be part of it with Sony on Stand 9.310 in Hall 9 From acquisition to editing, distribution and display, visitors will be able to experience an unparalleled display of equipment and solutions in the New Product Showcase Area. Headlining is the European launch of the much anticipated XDCAM EX tapeless camcorder, which has reinforced Sony's commitment to providing choice for any budget or format. Following their global launch at NAB 2007, Sony's SRW-5800 New HDCAM SR flagship, BVM-L230 flat screen professional monitor and HDCAM-790P camera will also be on display for the first time in Europe. In addition, Sony will launch products in its comprehensive range of widescreen, professional LMD monitors, systems cameras and Sony Creative Software solutions.

In addition to cameras featured in the front showcase, there will be a significant monitor section where visitors can see the newest LMD flat-panel monitor to join the range, the LMD-4250W. The LMD-4250W's 42-inch display (viewable area, measured diagonally), features 1920 by 1080 resolution, and pixel-to-pixel reproduction offering full HD resolution. The monitor, scheduled to launch this autumn, offers multi-format capability from SD to 1080/60i and slot structure for cost effectiveness and future proofing.

This year's stand will also host Sony's biggest ever range of HD cameras. From entry-level HDV camcorders, Sony's family of XDCAM tapeless cameras to its high-end HDCAM line-up, content creators will enjoy the unrivalled choice Sony offers.

Adding to this, IBC 2007 will be the launch platform for Sony's HDC-1450 systems camera. This single format camera is an affordable tool that uses triax cabling and shoots 50 frames per second.

Adjoining the main Sony showcase and the Professional Services stand 9.130, Sony Creative Software will unveil its Vegas Pro 8(r) video and audio production suite on stand 9.131. The Vegas Pro 8(r) suite features a robust XDCAM HD workflow, comprehensive HDV support, import and edit support for the Sony AVCHD format and many new features to increase productivity and enhance output quality. Also being shown are DVD Architect 4.5, which is included in the Vegas Pro 8(r) suite, Cinescore software for instant soundtrack creation and the Sound Forge 9 audio production suite with new multi-channel recording and editing capabilities.

From Sonaps and Preservation Factory(tm) to HDXchange and Petasite, the stand will house Sony's Networked Production Zone where visitors can hear about major Sonaps developments thanks to Sony's partnership with Sobey and explore real systems that deliver end-to-end workflow benefits. Visitors can also drop in to Sony's application theatre to hear first hand how Sony's networked production technologies make it a major force in meeting the demands of today's broadcasters and producers across a wide range of budgets and applications.

HD scores high in tomorrow's stadium experience

From acquisition and production to transmission and archive, Sony's networked HD technology and Professional Services capabilities are creating new possibilities for large venues, like stadiums, to manage original and relevant content from the camera right through to the different screens now accessible to spectators. From images displayed on digital signage on the concourse to content played out through Ziris in the stadium foyer, visitors to 9.310 will witness how Sony is enriching fans' experience at multiple touch points. Behind the scenes and on display at the show, Sony is also helping to make these public places more secure, through its IPELA surveillance cameras, which provide enhanced processing and intelligent monitoring.

Outside Broadcast trucks are critical in any live production to transmit content straight from the pitch to viewers beyond the stadium. Despite the complexity of delivering high quality and time-sensitive live productions, Sony Professional Services continues to design and deliver tailored OB vehicles that make broadcasting simple, as Polsat 2 will testify when it is on show at the stand.

Visitors are invited to a Sony D-Cinema screening on Saturday, 8 September at 18:30, to experience Sony's CineAlta 4K technology first hand.
