New Dolby Media Producer Updates Deliver Performance Improvements (24/9/2007)

Popular professional audio mastering software now runs natively on Macintosh computers using Intel processors

Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: DLB) today announced the availability of Universal application of its Dolby(r) Media Encoder. The company also announced that it expects to release its Dolby Media Encoder SE (Stand-alone Edition) software product in the near future. These new Universal applications, aimed at mastering facilities, will run natively on Intel(r) and PowerPC(r) systems alike, giving all Mac(r) users increased performance.

Dolby Media Encoder offers comprehensive encoding and job control capabilities in a client-server environment. Dolby Media Encoder SE provides a single-computer software encoding solution that offers the same level of high-quality encoding capabilities. Dolby plans to release Universal applications for its Dolby Media Decoder and Dolby Media Tools later in calendar year 2007 to complete the full suite of products.

"The Dolby Media Producer software suite's main benefit is its powerful mastering support," said Steve Venezia, Manager, DVD/DTV Broadcast Support, Dolby Laboratories. "With the new Universal application updates for all of Dolby Media Producer products, we're tapping into the potential of available Macintosh(r) Intel hardware capabilitiesÑultimately resulting in increased productivity and improved work-flow management."

The Universal update of Dolby Media Encoder and Dolby Media Encoder SE provides up to 57 percent faster encoding of Dolby Digital on Intel-based Macintosh computers when compared to the same tasks performed using the PowerPC versions running under Rosetta(r) on the Intel-based Macintosh. Users can also realize significant encoding improvements for Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and MLP LosslessTM technologies. The new products also feature added support for mobile-device Internet browsers, allowing users to remotely access and manage job queues. In addition, the updated Universal applications will improve decoding performance for synchronous file playback of audio tracks with video with Apple(r) QuickTime(r).

Dolby Media Encoder is a non-real-time client-server application that includes up to three clients, enabling multiple operators to set up and submit jobs for encoding either locally or to a centralized facility server. It also includes an integral preview decoder for playback of source and encoded files for monitoring. The stand-alone version is a cost-effective single-computer software product that offers the same level of high-quality encoding capabilities as the original Dolby Media Encoder network version.

Dolby Media Decoder is a software version of the Dolby DP564 reference hardware decoder and is designed to run on a local computer. It decodes and monitors all supported Dolby codecs and Dolby consumer listening modes, and supports the Sony(r) P2 9-pin protocol and Apple QuickTime for synchronous file playback of audio tracks with video.

Dolby Media Tools enables users to repair or update previously encoded files without having to reencode, thus saving time and facility costs. Its features include metadata editing, file trimming, timecode striping, and file concatenation.
