News Linux users benefit from DVS Spycer 1.2 (26/9/2007) DVS Digital Video Systems GmbH presents Spycer(r) 1.2, the new version of the innovative Spycer(r) data manager. The applications for Linux(r) and Windows(r) offer new features that enable an optimal data management. The intelligent data manager from DVS supports direct copying via SpycerNet as well as generating and managing preview proxies. With Spycer(r) 1.2, DVS presents the new version of its award-winning data manager Spycer(r). Users of Linux(r) and Windows(r) operating systems will benefit from the software's new features. Aside from an optimized user interface, for the first time Spycer(r) 1.2 offers the ability to use, generate and manage preview proxy files without affecting the network. Local image sequences can be played back, supported by preview proxies. Direct copying of files between Spycer(r) applications in the network takes place independently of filesharing mechanisms in the various operating systems. Spycer(r) 1.2 is able to identify and display over 100 graphic file formats. The new software is backwards compatible with previous versions of the data manager, so that clip searches can even be done easily in networks with differing Spycer(r) versions. Spycer(r) is a stand-alone content management application that simplifies the handling of large amounts of video data and related metadata. The software offers editors, colorists and producers useful tools for browsing, searching and managing data. Spycer(r) was developed as an open system and supports conventional IT infrastructure as well as all DVS products. Another benefit of Spycer(r) is that the software requires no centralized storage to carry out network-based browsing or efficient clip searching in a company network. DVS achieves this with a scalable content management network, the SpycerNet, in which multiple Spycer(r) applications can operate and exchange metadata. Konstantin Schinas, Product Manager at DVS, says: "DVS is pleased that customers with Linux(r) clients can now also benefit from our Spycer(r) software. New features, like playback of preview proxies or direct copying across the network, ensure a high user friendliness and offer optimal possibilities for the management of large amounts of data, like those amassed in DI post production."
