Quantel previews Version 3.7 software with new tools for
color correction, effects and connectivity (1/10/2007)
Quantel is showcasing its forthcoming V3.7 software release at IBC, which
includes many new tools and workflow enhancements, all designed to further
speed work through the Quantel environment and give yet more creative
choices. Since all Quantel workstation products share the same fundamental
code base and toolsets, many of the advances included in V3.7 will be
applicable to all eQ, iQ and Pablo systems.
As always with Quantel, the majority of the new facilities have been
developed in response to user feedback, mixed in with some original thinking
from our hyper-active R&D brains. Here are a few particular highlights:
Effects
* Enhanced graphic shapes creation and handling.
Graphic shapes are the unsung heroes of many post production processes
- relied on for rotoscoping, keying, color correction, garbage matting
and other effects work. The new graphics tools in V3.7 are faster, easier
and more precise to use - with new facilities such as variable edge softness
control - which is totally interactive even at ultra-high resolution -
and a primitives-to-curves facility which adds even more flexibility.
Color tools
* Fast and flexible grade management
Developed especially for the Pablo in-context color correction system,
Version 3.7 introduces a powerful facility to apply, trim and manage grades
across groups of shots. Even better, multiple grading versions can be
saved for each shot - ideal for directors and DoPs that need to try out
a range of `looks'. Connectivity
* Massive workflow boost
New network conform features handle an even wider range of file structures
that are used in DI today. Also new is improved AAF conform, including
support for audio patching, making the job of correlating multiple audio
clips with associated video clips in multilayer edits fast and easy. V3.7
also includes support for more flavors of MXF and faster TIF exports (for
DCI). "Like our customers, we have a real passion for what we do," said
Steve Owen, Quantel Director of Marketing. "We're determined to keep pushing
development on to ensure that our systems continue to deliver more and
more of what our customers need to keep moving their businesses forward."
Version 3.7 Software will ship in Q4 and will be free to all Quantel
eQ, iQ and Pablo customers with current QCare Standard and Complete support
contracts.
