News Quantel gives Mission its European debut (1/10/2007) Holistic MAM system now ready to ship Mission, the brand new media and asset management system previewed by Quantel in April this year, is on show for the first time in Europe at IBC in its complete, ready-to-ship form. New for IBC is a further application within the Mission suite - Mission WebView, which allows remote users (journalists in the field, for example) to view and access all media under the management of Mission using a standard web browser. Mission is designed to complement Quantel's Enterprise sQ and Newsbox HD integrated production solutions. Mission's holistic approach enables broadcasters to get the very most out of the Quantel workflow by providing instant access to all stored media and metadata, on and off-line, for everyone involved in the production process - journalists, producers, editors, archivists and legal. Mission also handles scheduled operations and media transcoding automatically, and interfaces intelligently with Archive solutions so that they become an extension of online media and metadata. Even while still in development, Mission has caught broadcasters' attention because of the holistic approach it brings to asset management - as an extension of the existing production tools rather than a layer bolted on top. Mission also helps broadcasters to transition to a file-based workflow; Mission doesn't discriminate between assets; it treats them all equally, as well as handling all the associated metadata. That makes it an ideal solution for the new all-in, any-out age where speed to air and easy management of the widest variety of source material are pre-requisites for every broadcaster. Mission handles User Generated Content as easily as media from professional file or video-based acquisition formats. A number of broadcasters around the world have already specified Mission as part of their new system requirements, and the first systems will be shipping together with Enterprise sQ news/sports production systems in the coming months.
