News Quantel gives Genetic Engineering its European debut (1/10/2007) New teamworking infrastructure already making major impact on Post and DI workflows Genetic Engineering, Quantel's radical new teamworking infrastructure for post and DI, makes its European debut at IBC in fully battle-proven condition. Since its launch in April, Genetic Engineering has enjoyed the fastest ever take-up by Quantel customers for a new infrastructure product. There are already seven systems installed around the world producing real work and real workflow benefits - see the attached round-up of some of the users for more details. There are two Genetic Engineering systems on the Quantel stand at IBC. One is front-of-house giving public demonstrations of its ability to deliver realtime performance with multiple workstations even when working with 4K. The second Genetic Engineering system resides in the `hands-on' area of the stand, and is set up within a simulated post house/broadcast creative services environment to give a real-world look at the technology at work. The set-up includes an ARRI Film Scanner (courtesy of ARRI, stand 11.621), MTI Film CORRECT dust-buster (courtesy MTI Film, stand 7.418), eyeon Fusion (courtesy eyeon Software, stand 7.320), and several other effects, compositing and 3D applications. All can be seen working with shared material alongside the connected Quantel workstations - all without the time consuming transfers and multiple copy management headaches that come with conventional SAN-based architectures. "Genetic Engineering was born out of listening to our customers' difficulties in getting sensible workflows out of complex SAN-based infrastructures," said Steve Owen, Quantel Director of Marketing. "Genetic Engineering solves the problems by simply avoiding creating them in the first place. It offers a naturally smarter workflow that has quickly been seized on by hard-pressed post and DI houses, and judging by what the early adopters are already saying, is clearly delivering in full on its promise."
