News Sony adds functionality to F23 flagship camera and announces SRW-5800 HDCAM SR studio recorder (8/10/2007) Further functionality has also been incorporated into the F23, and Sony has today announced a unique feature in that the new accessory board HKSR-103 will allow 1 fps to 60 fps recording in RGB 4:4:4. The F23 will also offer manual ramping whilst recording, and improved gamma curves to match the huge dynamic range of the camera. The new CCD technology, together with the high-precision 14-bit A/D converter, provides 700% enhanced dynamic range and a remarkable signal-to-noise ratio. Furthermore, a newly developed prism system allows wider colour space capture than film. Latest Addition to the HDCAM SR Line-up While the F23 camera has already gained great momentum within the cinematography market, Sony has also further strengthened its HDCAM SR(tm) VTR range. As HD-based programme origination has become more commonplace, demand has steadily escalated for increased levels of quality criteria: even more video bit rates, higher framer rates and greater format flexibility. Reflecting these criteria, Sony has launched the new SRW-5800 HDCAM SR studio recorder. It is capable of recording a high video bit rate of 880 Mb/s and has the same features as the other recorders in the line-up, but exclusively provides 1080/60p and 50p recording through the use of 880Mb/s data rate. "Broadcasters who require this recorder in its simplest form, have the perfect model to match their production requirements. When the SRW is configured with complete post-production package, it has been designed to meet the demanding requirements of this community and should be the universal choice for high-end content creation today and in the future," concluded Olivier Bovis, General Manager, Content Creation Group, Sony Europe.
