Lawo merges DAW plugins and mixing consoles (8/10/2007)

Lawo has developed the world's first complete integration of DAW plugins for their large format digital audio mixing consoles. This unique Lawo innovation allows users to benefit from the world of plugin sounds via regular mixing console controls - a feature previously known only to DAW users. With this advanced step, Lawo has succeeded in merging the distinct worlds of mixing consoles and DAWs Ð a technology first presented by Lawo at this year's NAB2007 show in Las Vegas.

The Lawo-developed technology, with extremely low latency and based on a Windows PC, is controlled directly by the mixing console. The Lawo Plugin Host (LPH) assigns the tielines required for the triggered plugins to the mc2 HD Core which, in turn, establishes the required plugin channels. The audio tielines appear automatically on the GUI matrix screen. The mixing console imports the plugin parameters in the same way as console-based EQ or dynamics parameters are assigned. The console is aware of all the plugin's parameter settings, which can be stored in snapshots or automation mixes. This latter feature highlights the main benefit to the user: plugin parameters that can be recalled together with all the console's normal audio settings, either statically using snapshots, or dynamically with the automation data. This results in complete amalgamation of the previously separate mixing console and DAW domains.
