News Pomfort SilverStack v1.4 goes 10 bit with Leopard (28/12/2007) Pomfort SilverStack v1.4 adds a new 10 bit color depth pipeline for QuickTime media creation to the lightweight but professional handling of image sequences in film and video production workflows. Pomfort SilverStack for Mac OS X provides extensive features for viewing, managing and exporting of image sequences of various formats including DPX and Cineon. The current update offers additional features for Mac OS X Leopard users. With capable codecs such as Apple's ProRes, Uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2, CineformHD or codecs from AJA and Blackmagic, the new SilverStack HCD (high color depth) edition now supports 10 bit QuickTime creation from 10 bit DPX and 16 bit TIFF files. The high quality source material - either scanned from film, captured with a clip recorder or shot with a digital movie camera - can be transferred from image sequences to QuickTime's production codecs including linearization (1D LUT, 3D LUT, Kodak-style LogLin) and primary color correction. Such generated QuickTime media is ready for working in high color depth in Final Cut Pro without the need of a separate "online" of source image sequences. For certain workflows SilverStack HCD v1.4 also contains basic support for full-range video support (super-black and super-white) for certain 10bit Y'CbCr (YUV) codecs. For Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" users SilverStack v1.4 introduces improved handling of image sequences in everyday's production work: A genuine DPX QuickLook plugin shows DPX files including metadata without the need of opening any application, image sequences can be browsed in the CoverFlow view of Finder. SilverStack's unique feature of image folder icons has been further improved with hi-res previews and additional resolution information. Pomfort SilverStack enables operators to browse sequence-based and timecode-oriented with a unique info-timeline, open movie-typical file types such as DPX, Cineon, TIF in practically any resolution, edit SMPTE timecodes and frame rates in headers of entire DPX image sequences, view color-channels and a selective RGB histogram, apply gamma- or 1D and 3D LUT-based linearization for logarithmic film material, apply primary color correction and playback of preview movies of image sequences on any machine using built-in QuickTime(tm)- based player. Pomfort SilverStack comes with its own render queue Cinemator, a Mac typical pro-style user interface and utilities such as a Spotlight plugin and Automator workflows for Mac OS X. SilverStack is now available in three editions: SilverStack HCD with the new high color depth pipeline with an introduction price at $495 USD, the standard edition at $395 USD and a reduced video edition at $185 USD per single seat license. Software requires Mac OS X 10.4.10 or Mac OS X 10.5, QuickTime 7.2 or higher.
