Harris Corporation Demonstrates Market-Leading 3 Gb/s Broadcast Technology (25/4/2008)

New NEXIO AMP(tm) is First Video Server to Support 1080p

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, is extending its market-leading position in 3 Gb/s broadcast technology with the introduction of its NEXIO AMP(tm) advanced media platform as the first video server in the industry to offer support for 1080p. At the 2008 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention, Harris will feature the industry's most comprehensive range of cost-effective 3 Gb/s-ready products.

"The introduction of 3 Gb/s capability in our NEXIO AMP media platform is another demonstration of the product's groundbreaking technology, which has significantly expanded the functionality of the traditional broadcast server," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. "Although 1080p is still very much an emerging standard, Harris is making it affordable for broadcasters to invest in a future-proof infrastructure. Because most of our 3 Gb/s products are software-keyed, customers don't pay for 3 Gb/s support until they need it."

At NAB2008, the entire Harris 3 Gb/s family of products - including signal processors, multiviewers, test and measurement, routers and servers - will be featured in one convenient, central location in the Harris booth: the "3 Gb/s Zone." Visitors to the 3 Gb/s Zone who are building a new facility from the ground up, or simply adding products to their existing operation, will see the full scope of Harris 3 Gb/s technology, which lays a solid foundation for broadcasting a 1080p signal.

As one of many highlights in the 3 Gb/s Zone, Harris will be showcasing the NEO(r) XHD-3903, the world's only HDTV converter available with built-in 3 Gb/s 1080p 50/59.94 processing and conversion capabilities. Harris will also demonstrate new linear frame rate conversion technology, which will be available as an option for the XHD-3903 in June.

In the area of test and measurement, Harris is introducing a new 3 Gb/s dual-input module for its popular Videotek(r) VTM and TVM series of test instruments at NAB2008. The 3 Gb/s module will be demonstrated in three new products: the TVM-950-3GB multiformat signal analyzer with integral LCD, the VTM-4100 PKG-3 multiformat on-screen monitor and the AVM-717-3GB self-contained test and measurement solution. Field upgrade kits are also available for existing TVM-950 and VTM Series(tm) products and configurations to upgrade HD or SD systems to 3 Gb/s. Already the most cost-effective test product of its kind on the market today, the flexible VTM Series(tm) now adds the new 3 Gb/s module to provide a combined package offering SD, HD and 3 Gb/s performance - including integral 3 Gb/HD/SD signal source for complete system testing - at an affordable price.

In signal processing, Harris is extending the market leadership of its acclaimed X75(tm) with the introduction of the X85(tm) enhanced all-in-one processor. The X85(tm) adds all-new features into its space-saving 1RU frame: a linear frame rate conversion option converts 59.94 Hz and 50 Hz-based signals; dual-channel processing provides maximum efficiency; and a 3 Gb/s upgrade capability allows for an easy, economical move anytime a broadcaster is ready to make the transition to 1080p.

Recently, Harris also began shipping its first fully functional 3 Gb/s routing systems, with the capability to pass 3 Gb/s signals now standard on all HD routing systems purchased from the company's industry-leading Platinum(tm) and Platinum(tm) MX lines. Visitors to the Harris booth at NAB2008 will see these routers, as well as 3 Gb/s capability throughout the core processing workflow, including new distribution amplifiers in the high-quality 6800+(tm) modular core processing platform, the CENTRIO(tm) multiviewer, and a range of OPTO+(tm) fiber products in the 6800+(tm) platform, which offer 3 Gb/s electrical-to-optical and optical-to-electrical conversion capabilities.

Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The Harris ONE(tm) approach brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
