Digital Vision unveils new products and ability to work with RED RAW data and Avid Media Composer (30/3/2009)

Digital Vision, the premier supplier of picture enhancement systems for film and television post-production, will unveil a host of new products at this year's NAB in Las Vegas as well as highlighting its ability to work with RED RAW data and leading non-linear editing systems such as Avid Media Composer.

"This is a very exciting time for Digital Vision, and it is only right that we are in Las Vegas to share our new technology and innovations with our customers. We will be there, and we will be there in a big way," comments company President, Simon Cuff. "We already have a clear leadership in file-based workflows for film and broadcast, and our continually improved integration with NLE systems means that we are now involved with productions right from on-set look creation through to the final grade and mastering session. That is a powerful position for us that we intend to exploit to the full."

New for the show is the announcement that Turbine is shipping. Turbine is a unique approach to distributed processing that combines the reliability and scalability of a render grid with the performance of a computer cluster. It adds scalable processing power to all Digital Vision software solutions and can improve render times by a factor of 10 or more. Linked directly to the Film Master processing manager, as effects and layers are built up by the colourist, Turbine kicks in and distributes the work across all available nodes.

Stereoscopic continues to grow both in its audience appeal and in production volumes. Digital Vision has added a host of new stereo grading features providing easier grading of left eye and right eye and overall look on a shot or scene basis. In addition the company will be adding monitoring support for the Zalman range of stereo monitors for assist stations to allow reviewing of convergence and editorial decisions outside of the grading theatre.

Also to be unveiled at the show will be the 2009 (V2) release of the DVO image processing tools for film and video. These promise to provide a significant leap over the current, already impressive toolset; the DVO New Tracker, for example, allowing artists to track people's faces and objects with just a single button press and can deal with all kinds of motion automatically.

Digital Vision also announces that it is simplifying the iterations of its market-leading products. From NAB onwards, new versions will now be named after the year of their release, simplifying matters for customers who can be confident that a project created in Phoenix 2009 can be loaded into Film Master 2009 and so on.

Highlighting the fact that Film Master offers one of the most powerful and flexible ways of working with digital camera files, RED Camera's Ted Schilowitz will be presenting daily on the Digital Vision stand. "This is a testament to how well we manage the RED RAW data," comments Cuff. "We feel we have the best system out there for working with RED, and we're working hard under the hood to ensure we have the best system for working natively with any digital camera format, including SI 2K, Phantom, ARRI Raw and XDCAM.

"This is an enormously exciting show for us," he concludes. "Much has happened since NAB 2008, and visitors to our stand will see that we are forging ahead with product development despite the tough economic conditions .Digital Vision is perfectly positioned to help our customers deliver creative services on time and on budget."
