News Keisoku-Giken showcases UDR-20S, 4K uncompressed RGB (4:4:4) master recorder/player (27/5/2009) Keisoku-Giken Co. Ltd. (www.keisoku.co.jp), a leading manufacturer of uncompressed imaging solutions for production, post-production, and digital cinema environments, showcased the UDR-20S, a 4K 4:4:4 RGB player and recorder, at NAB 2009. This system is ideally suited to 3D stereoscopic production and provides unparalleled capabilities and performance for tapeless digital cinematography. During the exhibition 4K content shot on a RED ONE digital camera was played by the UDR-20S and shown on a SHARP High Definition 64 inch LCD Display (4096 x 2160) (currently in development) in Keisoku-Giken's booth. The UDR-20S seamlessly integrates in both a studio and field environment. It can record in a variety of formats and resolutions, from two channels of HD/2K digital film, all the way up to uncompressed 4K for the ultimate digital picture quality available today. Reliable and portable, the system features removable media DiskPacks that provide for complete security in both the studio and on set. The intuitive VTR-styled front panel operation is easy to use. It can interface with multiple digital camera systems. Its comprehensive array of industry-standard interfaces and flexible I/O configurations ensures forward compatibility and serves as a central component of a workflow system, whether in shooting or editing. The UDR-20S is compatible with 4096 x 2160 (4:4:4) resolution and provided with 8ch, HD-SDI video I/Os. Its recording time is approx. 80min in 1920x1080, 60i/10bit, 4:2:2 and 31min in 4096x2160, 24psf/10bit, 4:4:4. The UDR-20S is provided with removable 4 HDD disk packs. Audio is sampled at 48 kHz and synchronized to the video input in AES3 format at 16/20/24 bit (embedded:12ch). Multiple units of the UDR-20S can be operated in parallel and synchronized for higher resolution, such as 8k by 4k as known as Super Hi- Vision System by NHK, which makes the UDR-20S also well suited for concert recording and sports broadcasting. The optional J-UDR software allows the user to control the UDR-20S remotely from a PC and convert the image data into BMP, CINEON, DPX, TIFF, Quick Time and almost all sequential uncompressed file formats. The JUDR controls the UDR-20S via Ethernet or Fibre Channel. Besides basic control like Play, various functions such as settings for UDR, Playlist, Load and Save Video Data are provided with this software. The UDR-20S is ideal for multiple applications, such as stereoscopic 3D, digital cinema (4k x 2K shooting), 4K digital cinema projection, research and development of FPD (flat panel display), evaluation of input/output characteristics of imaging devices, multi-channel camera/viewing system, as well as 4k digital cinema projection. K.Hirano, President of Keisoku Giken Co. Ltd., comments, "We call the UDR-20S the 'Master Recorder' because it represents the culmination of all our research and experience in the field. It is perfectly suited to support uncompressed processing. We are thrilled by its versatility across so many different aspects and applications in 4k RGB imaging including development, presentation and recording. When designing the technical specifications we targeted 7680 x 4320 / 60p resolution, and the outcome has surpassed our clients' expectations."
